Miriam El Mahdi, BSocSc., PGDip – Occupational Therapist

Miriam received her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science from University College of Cork Ireland in 2011 focusing on Special Education and Psychology. Miriam went on to study Occupational Therapy at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh where she received a Postgraduate Diploma in Occupational Therapy in 2014. She is registered with the National Health Regulatory Body in the UK, The Health Care Professions Council.

Miriam’s experience includes working in hospitals in orthopaedics to provide rehabilitation and compensatory techniques to maximize client’s independence and minimize the impact of injury on their daily life. She also worked in adult mental health where she supported individuals who experience anxiety and depression.

Further to working with adults, Miriam went on to pursue her career and passion of working with the pediatric population.  She spent six years working as an Occupational Therapist in the Middle East at Think Behavior and Development Center for Children. It was recently awarded with The Behavioral Health Center of Excellence (BHCOE) which recognized the organization as the top behavioral service provider in the country. Miriam was also trained in Applied Behavior Analysis under the supervision of Board Certified Behavior Analysts while she worked there. She has experience working with a multitude of diagnoses such as ASD, Dyslexia, Down Syndrome, Global Developmental Delay and ADHD. Miriam enjoyed working directly with learners, their families and carers, and professionals in schools and at home. More recently she has worked via telehealth on designing programs for families and training parents/carers on implementing them.

Her primary focus is on helping children and their families to be as independent as possible. Her clinical interests include handwriting, toilet training and self-care activities. Her biggest passion is supporting and empowering parents through training and education.
